An outdoor dining chair that adapts to your body

Limber is a uniquely ergonomic chair that
is comfortable for everyone regardless of body type. Through a living hinge and a notched back, it molds itself to you and your body and provides a relaxing outdoor dining experience.

A more comfortable outdoor dining chair

Sitting outdoors for long periods of time becomes uncomfortable, no matter how nice the weather

“I love to eat and sit outside once the weather gets warmer, but honestly it becomes uncomfortable after a while”
- 21 year old restaurant frequenter

What’s needed

Interviewing restaurant owners & customers on their outdoor dining experience

How can a seat contour to your body like memory foam does?

Inspired by the comfort and adaptability of memory foam for all body types

MOODBOARD

Warm, relaxing, comfortable

MATERIAL EXPLORATION

Creating a wooden living hinge with a segmented seat for adaptability & personalized comfort

The seat segments will move down as someone sits on it, contouring the seat to their body.

I found that 1” segments with no gap on 3/4” plywood works the best for seat bending

ERGONOMICS TESTING

An upright yet relaxed back angle for dining

FINAL CONCEPT
PROTOTYPING + BUILDING

Refining proportions & building the chair
